The next big challenge for the now established annual summer exhibition was to make an exhibition around a distinctive village theme. The committee decided that a military exhibition fitted the bill and plans were set into action.

Appeals for photographs and exhibits went out and quite a lot of varied material was loaned to the Society. A small stage was put up at the rear of the exhibition area to hold the mini-museum of exhibits, including such items as Stewart McLean’s flying boots, several uniforms and many items of military hardware.

The display boards around the room were full of pictures and stories of local men (and women) who had helped with war efforts ranging from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, right up to modern day conflicts, such as Northern Ireland. In between, there were stories from the 19th Century Boer Wars and the 'forgotten' Korean War of 1950-53, which incredibly accounted for the deaths of 4 million people.
